DOT Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Testing

Federal law mandates that newly hired and current employees performing or supervising certain pipeline related job tasks, submit to and pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) compliant drug and alcohol test as a condition of employment. Employees are also tested randomly based on a rate determined by the DOT. The current rate is 25% to be tested randomly throughout the year. Prohibited/tested substances are marijuana metabolites, cocaine metabolites, opiate metabolites (including codeine and morphine), PCP, amphetamines. The DOT prohibits marijuana use by covered employees, regardless of state legality or medical prescription. Failure to consent to a DOT drug and alcohol test will disqualify the candidate from employment. A final offer of employment is subject to the successful completion of the drug and alcohol test.
